Story Behind The Story: A Dream to Share ![]() ![]() I'm a true dreamer, thinking up weird ideas to get couples together. Some think I'm a romantic, but I'm not the type to play the innocent woman to be more likeable. Instead, I believe romance is alive and well when a couple does nice unexpected things for each other. But what would be really cool is if Cupid did exist...or maybe a race of cupids, like I created in my story. They could do the tough work, making nice things happen on a whim, like mutual dreams or making winter turn to spring (my dream world, for sure!). This story was created to be very light, with a bit of amusement. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! It's the first of a series of books including the cupid race messing everything up while trying to inject a bit of romance into a relationship. The reason I wrote this book is because to me, it describes my writing career. No, I don't have cupids hanging out around me, but in the story, Merry has to decide whether she wants to give up her business for her personal life, because if she doesn't, she's afraid she'll be an old maid. In my own life, I always had a goal to just share my stories, not caring if I made it big or rich. But after I epubbed two books and landed an agent, I thought my world was going to turn upside down. Various huge publishers were contacted, with the hopes of big bucks. But along with that money came the thought of having to juggle my family's happiness for book signings, conferences, and other schmoozing opportunities. Our kids are all teenagers, and our oldest has Asperger's Syndrome. I've found that the older our kids get, the more they really need me. Who else would be able to drop everything to make sure their missing book was at school, or they'd have a shoulder to cry on? So I made the decision that traditional publishing wasn't for me. I wanted control so I could make sure my personal and family life was intact and I wasn't pulled in two directions. Merry Woods has the same dilemma facing her. Which is more important? Her business or her personal life? It's a tough decision, but when multitasking, something has to give. Read the first chapter here. Buy links: |
